BOS Web Interface

What is the BOS Web Interface?

BOS Web Interface is BOS's way of restoring the current backup version of files stored in the backup server, through any web browser, without the need of installing or integrating the BOS software.

The BOS Web Interface will allow you to access the most current backup of your files through the web, as long as you install a web server that supports ASP.

Who is allowed to use BOS Web Interface?

Bos Web Interface allows the system's administrator to assign specific access rights to specific backup directories, to each user in the organization, by using the IIS engin, previously installed, in every modern Windows server.

This means that any user in the organization can be authorized to access and restore his lost or corrupted files, by himself.

BOS Web Interface Setup

The following instructions are for Windows 2000 and above,

and are to be followed after IIS is installed.

Inside the BOS Installation directory you will find a BOS Web Interface subdirectory

  • If you are planning to use IIS on the Backup Server Machine for backup purposes only, then just copy all the files in this subdirectory to the Web Root folder.
  • If you plan to make use of IIS also for purposes other than backup, then rename the default .htm and default .asp files in it

To setup the BOS Web Interface, please perform the following steps:

  1. copy all the files from your BOS installation directory; usually: "[SystemDrive]:\Program Files\BOS - Backup Proxy Server\Web Interface" to your web root folder (in IIS the folder is usually "[DiskDrive]:\Inetpub\wwwroot\"
  2. go to the "current" folder of BOS (usually "[BackupDrive]:\backup\current")
  3. web-share the folder by
    1. right-click on the folder
    2. click on "Sharing"...
    3. click on the "Web Sharing" tab
    4. click on "Share this folder"
    5. change the Alias name to "BosCurrent"
    6. uncheck the read & write access permission
    7. change the application permission to "None"
  4. In any browser, type "http://[BosServerName]"
  5. If the IIS server is not dedicated to BOS only, you should rename the Default.asp and the Default.htm before copying them over the originals.
  6. To enable access to the help files of BOS through the BOS Web Interface, you need to copy the whole BOS HELP subdirectory to the same location.

Restoring a file

To restore a file, the user needs to type "http://[BosServerName]" , in his browser. Then "Enter"

He will be able to view the following interface, with the list of the last backed up versions of the files to which he has access rights..

To restore any of the files the user needs to click on the desired file name.

The file will be downloaded as any other regular internet file download, with the system's options.
