Rebuild Database

BOS's Database

BOS has a unique (patent pending) database, which holds information about files' versions, size, histories locations and more. This database is CHIEF's propriety and is not

based on any known database engine.

The outstanding characteristic of  this database is the fact that it can be fully recovered when damaged.

See 'Trouble-Shooting'  chapter to learn how to check database integrity.

Rebuild Database

After establishing the database's need of reparation, select 'Rebuild Database' from the 'Tools' menu.

You can select two options: Rebuild the entire database or to run repair only on a specific part.

In this window, the whole database will be rebuilt when clicking the 'Rebuild' button

When clicking 'Browse', you will be prompt to select the portion of the database (its position in the backup storage) you want to repair. Select and click 'Rebuild'.

BOS will repair the selected folder and it's subfolders.

Note that the time needed for rebuilding the database does not depend of its size (volume of the data) but of the number of files existing in the backup.

If you need to know how many files are in your backup, right-click 'Backup' folder with Windows Explorer and select 'Properties', which shows the number of files kept.

Therefore, if your backup storage contains over 250,000 files, it is recommended to temporarily stop the BOS service, to prevent BOS from writing more new data while rebuilding

the database.

Remember to restart BOS service when done
