Options

The 'Options' menu controls the overall settings for the BOS application. 'Options' has 3 sub menus (tab selection):

●  General - Control general definitions.
●  Login Accounts - The account list BOS will use in sessions.
●  Email - Email configuration settings.

General

This menu contains general settings for BOS application.

Backup drive - Shows the backup drive [LINK] BOS is using. Although there is an option to change the backup drive, it is recommended to use this feature with care. See more details on 'Advanced Use' related chapter.

Days to keep history files - This is the setting for how long (in days)  will BOS preserve and maintain versions of files in the backup storage, including BOS's logs. More details on 'Glossary'  chapter

Disk size threshold - When BOS runs backup, the application measures the backup disk's size (partition size). To prevent overflow of the disk, BOS can inform you whenever the disk space is running out. Whenever BOS founds out that the data surpasses this value (in percentage), it will issue a critical warning.
Self maintenance session time - BOS is built to run 24 hours a day. Since BOS collects many files a day, it needs to run a self maintenance procedure. This process includes the deletion of old versions of files (files which date is overdue, according to the 'Days to keep history files' setting), database checkup and maintenance, self backup session, registration check and more. You can set the preferred time for this process to run. Since it is best for this session to run when BOS is idle, its default time is 04:00 AM.
Show wizard when BOS starts - Show or skip wizard screen when BOS application opens.
Use Auto-recovery for BOS configuration files - BOS has the ability to recover configuration files automatically, when this feature is set. Since backup files are 'at hand' and BOS backs itself up- whenever a configuration file is missing (session/s' definitions, scheduling etc.) - BOS will automatically recover it from backup, and continue running normally.
Hide this machine from network browsing - Set this feature if you want to prevent accidentally browsing this machine. The 'Hide' mechanism will not block accessing BOS but will hide the machine from the network browser. When setting this option (on or off), wait about 15 minutes for the action to initialize

See help for 'Exclude / Force' and 'Filter Manager' buttons on 'Advance Usage'  pages.

Login Accounts

Since BOS uses neither clients nor agents installed on other computers, it is fully dependent on login accounts to access other machines on the network.

Enter the domain name, user and password to create a new login account.

If the domain or user name is not shown, you can write in the 'User name' text box the login this way:

DOMAIN\USER.

In cases where no domain name is needed (Novell etc.), select -=No Domain=- in the domain text box and freely write the user name and the password.

If the entered account is the first account, BOS will set this login account as the 'Default' account. 'Default' account is a setting for convenience only.

When applying a backup session, it automatically uses the 'Default' account. When setting the most used account as 'Default', you would not need to manually change each session's login details.

More information about login on 'Advanced Use'  and 'Troubleshooting'  chapters.

Email

BOS use this email definitions to send you messages, alerts, etc.

The email configuration is not indispensable for BOS operation, and can be left without setting it.

Default Email is the email address BOS will use as the default email for sending information to.

BOS uses any of the following email methods:

SMTP - This is the preferred method. BOS has a built-in SMTP engine and can generate SMTP messages. Set the IP or server name of your mail handler server (MS-Exchange, ISP server, etc.) and the SMTP port number (usually, untouched setting). Click 'Check' and BOS will try to send a 'Test' email for the default email. See the progress in the 'Status Log'.
MAPI - This method uses the machine's default email application (MS-Outlook, MS-Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, etc.) as the transport platform to send messages. This option might not work if the email application requires a user input on opening, such as password, selecting options, etc.

Note that if your mail server rejects unauthorized mail relay from inside the network, the SMTP method might not work.
