BOS System

Directives for Installation

In order to achieve an optimal BOS installation, the previous installation of the following components has to be verified:

  1. Windows 2000, XP or 2003.

  2. Latest Service pack

  3. If you are a foreign language user (Hebrew, German, etc.), please verify the full compliance with your language, in order to support the local language names of backed up files in different operating systems.

  4. Access to the backup computer with a Member Account for the Local Administrator's group, and with a password. The operating system will not allow the correct operation of the application without a password.

  5. When backing up network servers or workstations, please verify that the account has access rights to every data source wished to backup.

  6. The account defined in Domain does not need to be a Member of Domain Administrators.

  7. All the installation process will be conducted under this user.

  8. Please verify the existence of complete accessibility to every data source you wish to back up. The thumb rule is that any object (File or Directory) you cannot drag with the mouse and copy from a data source to the backup system, won't be backed up.

  9. In order to view backed up files, the applications required to open those files have to be installed. For instance, in order to view .xls backed up files we need MSExcell installed. To view .doc files, MSWord needs to be installed, etc.

  10. To enable remote control of the BOS system, please open ports 5472 and 5473 in your Firewall.

  11. To enable self restoring of data by network users at their workstations through the BOS Web Interface, please install IIS service. More info on this issue, at: IIS in Win2003
