Disk Extender

The purpose of this solution is to allow work continuity with an existing hard drive, even after adding a new drive to the system. For instance, when our backup system requires additional disk capacity in order to backup the data, and we lack the possibility of passing the data from the existing disk to a newly added disk.

A more conventional example is the case of regular work of the system with a single hard drive in which everything required has already been defined and all the applications installed. After a while the disk is filled up with data, and we need to relocate the files to a new drive and modify all definitions so that the system will be able to find those files in their new allocations
In such a situation the Disk Extender is most useful. It widens the existing disk capacity without changing definitions. The result is the same as copying the MyDocuments directory to the new drive while leaving its link on the desktop.

While working with BOS, the Disk Extender allows to enlarge the free storage capacity for backup without any changes or disturbance of the system.
It is possible to define that every server will be backed up to a separate hard drive, so that in case of need it will be possible to disconnect the complete disk and install it in the faulty server for speedy file recovery.

In the same way it is possible to install on the BOS system a hard drive previously duplicated on a server, containing operating system, applications, and everything required for the correct function of the system, and to define in BOS to regularly update the disk contents. Such a drive is useful to restore a complete system to normal work in a few minutes.

Another solution making use of the same abilities is the connection of a number of hard disks in a single computer system while splitting the backup targets between those drives. In this work formation it is possible to protect huge data volumes in a simple and basic computer system, sparing the costs of RAID comptrollers.
